Dual Processor Jukebox software

I have purchased a dual-processor machine with Redhat Linux already installed. I have never used Linux but am looking forward to the experience and plan to use Open Office (should arrive monday).

My primary wish for this machine is to be my music jukebox although I would like to use it for some other work as well.

My music collection is large with all of my files taking about 180 GB in about 23000 files. It brings my other machines (most getting a little long in the tooth and all Windows) to their knees.

I know that only certain software can utilize "both processors". I've browsed quite a bit and have not seen anything listed. How do I find out which applications do or if any are available? Or I'd be glad to entertain any suggestions........???

Under Linux, I don't know software that won't utilise both processors, providing your kernel is compiled with symetric multi-processing installed (SMP). This tells the core system to use multiple processors, and it's the kernel that passes calls from the software to the processors, memory, etc. Maybe a little out of date, but read http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/SMP-HOWTO.html for more info. Also, what version of Red Hat are you running so people can point to exactly how to enable SMP support on your system?
