Dual KDE or Dual Gnome

Currently i have X setup with Dual Monitors.. and it's pretty nice.. but i want to take it a step further and do dual X servers (like kde in one window and Gnome in the other)

i'm sure that if i do this, if i just load 1 GUI, i will not be able to use the other monitor.. but i want to do like kde AND gnome, one set for one monitor... any ideas? Is it possible?

Thanks!

dual kde-gnome

I dont know if you can but I would think that the performance hit you would take would change your mind real quick, assuming you got that far. better have a ton of ram, if it can even be done, and I'm not sure it can be. thats for someone more knowledgable than me to say

Hrrm.. that's a thought.. i have a gig of ram and a 1.59MHz Proccessor..

acid_kewpie 01-25-2003 08:00 AM

1.59Mhz... you mean a NES? :D

Freaksta 01-25-2003 09:16 AM

NES?

like are you calling my shit old?

Athalon XP 1900+ is not old... 1.6 is not old.. 1.59 is not old... and 2.4+ is not needed and you spend to much money.

I think he was telling you that 1.59mhz is about 1/12 of the speed of a 286, or 1/33 the speed of the slowest 486s. Perchance you misspelled and thus misdefined your speed. If you, newbie, are going to be offensive about any answer, you should thank people for answering your queries at all.

Hrrm..

Well Thanks. And i think it's pretty clear that there is no way a dual head Video card is supported by a computer the runs... 1/33 the speed of the slowest 386. ya think? I mean really.. i appreciate a reply.. but just because i'm "newbie" does not mean you should lose common sense.

1.59 Ghz

It's certainly possible to do that, however you'd find it a bit of a pain in the ass. You wouldn't be able to move windows between screens, nor would the clipboard traverse the screens.

What you want is Xinerama for multihead displays. You can run KDE and GNOME side by side if you really want, but I think they'd fight over control of the desktop etc
