Dual booting WinXp and Knoppix

Having recently sorted out all my HW issues (thx to hardware forums guys, you rock), I'm now ready to try and get my system ready to dual boot.

Situation:
XP is already installed in C:\ (which is /dev/sda1 when in linux)
Knoppix is installed (on the HDD) in /dev/sda6 (done by the knoppix-installer from the CDROM).

Most of the guides I've seen cover using dd to copy the linuxboot.img file to a place where the NTLDR (windows' boot loader) can see it (namely by putting C:\bootsect.lnx (/dev/sda1/bootsect.lnx) in the boot.ini file). Unfortunately this does not appear to work if the C:\ file system is NTFS. I can see NTFS partitions from knoppix (CD) and can mount the NTFS partition and see files, but I cannot write anything there even if I mount the partition with the -o rw options. Thus dd fails.

Do I have to reinstall XP with a FAT32 partition instead or is there a workaround?

Why not use Lilo or Grub instead of the Windows Boot Loader ?

That seems to be the best way to go.

Search Google for a program called BootPart. Works great for that.

Edit: Here... http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm
