Dual Booting Linux and XP wont work =[

Ive got 2 Hard drives, win xp pro on one, and now Redhat 7.1 on the other. I followed the instructions at
exactly, and I get a blinking curser when I try and load linux. The solution to this problem on the site is to try it again. Well I did that 3 times using 2 different disks, and unfortunately I still get the same problem...

Does it matter that the two are on different disks??

Any help is appreciated

I kept seeing all over that 'DO NOT INSTALL INTO THE MBR...IT MAY FAIL'...As long as you don't go fiddling with the XP bootloader, it should work fine having LiLo/Grub in the MBR.

May I recommend that you try again, but since you're installing Linux onto a 2nd harddisk (BTW Windows really doesn't like being anything other than the 1st harddisk) you do this:

When it gets to installing the bootloader (LiLo/Grub) you do. Install it to the MBR of the 1st harddisk (/dev/hda rather than either hdb, hda1 or hdb1), but make sure that you tell it the correct locations (i.e. Linux is on /dev/hdb1). And if you're running with an Athlon processor, make sure that for the Linux option, you add noathlon to the kernel parameters.

Hope this helps.

/me suggests:

I would do this:
overview: hda winxp
hdb* RedBarret

make hda1 the active booting partition
place lilo in the mbr of hda
then you will be fine
