do you have a few YEARS of Debian experience
if the answer is less than 5 to 15 years
Kali is a very bad choice for a "new to linux " user
you will be spending ( a guess) the next 6 months to a year learning just the basics OF KALI!
and that is BEFORE you can try to recover the files on the windows install using Kali
Kali is not a normal linux distro
thinking that kali is a normal every day distro is like calling a Formula ONE race car a family car .

I had windows 7. I tried to dual boot it with kali linux 1.0.

HOW did you resize the windows partition ?
7 normally came preinstalled WITH A HIDDEN "recovery" partition on the very first partition
--- this causes very annoying problems with installing ANY second OS ( even win XP )

However upon installation, i found that there was some unallocated space in hard disk so i installed it there.

just a guess here
that was the Microsoft RECOVERY!!!!! partition on the first partition ( also has the MBR of win7)

There was no option for it in grub.
I tried everything from previous posts and even tried boot-repair bootable pendrive

as above Kali is not a normal OS
and i am guessing you overwrote the Microsoft bootloader ( chainloading to it in GRUB is not not a option )

Then i deleted that portion in which i installed kali linux from a live cd. But even now i couldnt open windows. All my data is stuck there. Please help me...

you are up "bleeps" creek ....
but maybe not all is lost ( unless you messed up other things also )
go to the MICROSOFT !!! web site and read the instructions for using that
WINROWS7 "recovery disk" you were INSTRUCTED TO MAKE!@!!!!!!!!
the VERY FIRST TIME you booted win7
--- you DID make that required recovery disk ? right ?
--- you NEED IT NOW
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927392
run the Microsoft tool "Bootrec.exe" from the recovery disk you made
