dual boot install problem

the other day i tryed to install red hat 7.3 and windows xp on my computer-

amd xp1800
gig ga-7dxr+
dual maxtor ata 133 -40 gb drives
promise fastrack 100 -raid 0

couple of questions-
1. i load windows first and them linux-right
2. i created a primary partion, active, and an extended partiiton with one logical dirve . when i start the install of red hat after installing windows xp on a fat 32, i get that red hat sees no drives , i don,t get it????any which way i try to do this install, windows first and linux second, i always get that linux cannot see drives or recognize a partition or unused space.

i am thinking linux does not recognize or uncompatbable hardware-my maxtor ata 133 hard drives.

1. Yes, that's right.

2. Delete the logical and extended partitions and just leave it as free space. Then try to install red hat again. Don't touch the xp partition.

i have tryed that too. i had windows xp installed on a fat 32 , primary active partition, 50% of my available raid 0 space, 40 gb, and the remaining 40 gb was free space. i partitioned the raid with the primary patition and formatted it , installed wind xp. then started the red hat install, hardware errror , no hard drives.

i have no problem installing on basically the same board, i also have a gig ga-7dxr, non-ata 133, it has dual ibm drives , ata 100, i have no problems

got to believe it,s the maxtor ata 133 drives not compatible

No, it's got to be your IDE RAID controller. Windows has enough problems with these, I can't imagine what Linux would do to one. But I've never tried installing one in Linux. It probably doesn't want to use BIOS calls to the disk array to read/write to it; it wants its own driver. Is the promise controller supported under linux?

well, the board i am installing on is a gig ga-7dxr+ board. it has promise fastrack ata 133. the other board i have linux installed is the gig ga-7dxr board, ata 100. maybe the promise fastrack ata 133 is giving me fits. either the raid ata 133 controller or maxtor ata 133 hard drives.

i have raid set on my 2 other computers running raid 0, red hat 7.3 on a abit be-611 v.2 board and the gig ga-7dxr board with suse 8. raid setup on on suse 8 is so easy, just a couple of clicks with the mouse.
