DSLR As Web cam

Linux Mint Cinnamon, "Your System is up to date" as of just now.

Have several Canon DSLRS, cables to connect, have connected to HDMI ports, HP EliteDesk 800 G2. (System Info below)

I have installed OBS Studio, Cheese, Kamoso, et al.

Have tried others, can't remember which, but they did not work, so I deleted them.

Command after command after command at the terminal from so very many web sites, YT videos I watched for help, forums, etc. Probably over 100 commands. IN the videos, people used my Canon DSLRs, Nikon DSLRs, and the programs found and listed the camera, did videos they uploaded, even did it live while you watch the video.

Everything thus far has not worked. If this is not possible, I get it. If it is not possible, what web cam do people use that is not a gazillion dollars?

Microphone I bought for podcasting works, but not video. I hate MS; I love Linux.

My guess is that it is not possible, but if anyone has done it, I would like to know how. Been at this off and on for months searching, researching, trying.

I can use the Canon EOS SL1. Like I said, cables are attached, camera on, live view on, live view off, still tried. "Camera not found."

any thing that anyone tried tha worked with a Canon DSLR?

Thanks,
Zukester
