DSL questions

Hello,

I am useing DSL (woody I think) on a old thin client and I want to install some packages and programs like beaver or somthing else.

How can I find out the version of my current DSL?

I want to add sources to my source.list to download packages, where and how please?

How can I change the keyboard layout from "us" to "de"?

When you use aptitude search, you can use this to search packets but how can you search in apt-get?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

DSL has been unmaintained for 3-4 years now. Which means it most likely hasn't had any updates either.
Adding repositories, and installing packages would be adversely affected by this fact.

That being said,
to find the version you are using
Code:
uname -a

Update, no. But you can backup your data, and install lubuntu in place of DSL.

You should be able to install software from source, but this will not get any automatic updates, and will require recompiling the software any time a new version or patch is released.
