Lightbulb DSL on Linux

I got a DSL connection. I am not using a router. Its a USB ADSL modem that i connect through. I have the drivers for windows. But now I have installed Linux. I asked my ISP about how to install the connection onLinux and they said that i will need a router for that. I dont want to buy a router now. Can someone tell me how to install a USB ADSL modem in Linux and run the DSL connection.
