Drivers implemented in Kernel

Hello Guyz,
I was studying device driver programming referring LDD Edition 3.When I surfed I found that there are some drivers implemented in kernel /driver folder. They don't have the format of the normal device driver that I found in books. Is this kernel driver is different from normal device driver?if so
hw they are different ,what is the purpose of these drivers ?where I can find details about these drivers?
I use kernel Linux V2.6.32.2

I doubt someone can answer your question in the format of a forum post, and I certainly am ignorant on the subject, but KernelNewbies dot org looks like a good resource:

http://kernelnewbies.org/Documents

Also, this looks like it speaks to your request: Linux Device Drivers, 2nd Edition
