Driver for Canon i860 Printer

I know that there are not commonly available drivers for the i860 printer, so I have installed the BJC 7000 driver. The print quality is fine, but the print speed is SLOW. I found a driver for the i860 as a RPM file frm a Cannon Japanese web site. I converted it to DEB and installed in my system (I am using Ubuntu Linux). Now how do I apply this to my default printer?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Doug

Take a look at this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...highlight=i850
Looks like it should help.

Good Luck,

Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I followed the instructions from your link and installed everything as stated, except for libpng2, which my system (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS) told me was superceded by libpng10-0 (so I installed 10-0). I then installed the printer, but got no response when I tried to print a test page (the printer would indicate that it was paused and would not let me resume). I tried a number different ways to set up the printer to no avail.

The BJC7000 driver still works, albeit slowly.

Any idea why I now see 2 Canon i860 printers listed in the printer set up?

Thanks

Doug
