Thumbs up Downloading

Hi
Sorry if this is a boring question that has been asked a million times before but I am completely new to Linux, I have looked at it on a live CD but have never installed it on the hard drive though I want to.
The problem is that from what little I have read it seems complicated to download software from the net, I play poker for a living and need to download lots of poker sites and software, can anyone point me in the direction of a newbies guide to downloading software?
once again I apoligise for what is probably to you all a stupid question but as I say I know nothing about Linux but want to learn
Thanks for reading this

The most software for online poker portals is written for Windows and will not work on Linux natively. You may get it to run on Linux with using Wine, but there is no guarantee.
My recommendation: If you need Windows software for your work, use it on Windows.

Thanks for your reply Tobi, oh well, thats my Linux adventure finished before it has
started cos if I cant get poker sites to work there is no point in even trying Linux but its better to know now than after a lot of heartache.
ps I didnt mean to put angry in my heading, I meant disappointed not angry

Just because you don't are able to do your work on Linux you have to end your Linux adventures. You can try it in your free time.

I have no idea where you got the idea that downloading is complicated in Linux. Just like in Windows, you can use either a download manager or just click on the link in your browser.

If those downloads include Windows .exe files, they can't run on Linux, because it's a different OS. You could try Wine (a program that runs Windows programs on Linux, but it's not perfect).

Maybe you confused downloading files with installing Windows software?
