Just wonder if there is a free program which helps you download streaming medias to your local hard disk so that you will have a more enjoyable viewing pleasure.

Please tell me if you know of such wonderful program. :)

I think it depends on what you are looking for, but see if mencoder fits the bill for ya:
mencoder http://whatever.com/media.avi option:option:option -o stream.avi
