download sites


Hi.. do u know any way for downloading a whole site to my pc..... Suse 9.2

hi there

i had done this some time back using wget

look in to options of
wget for more
i do not remeber the arguments that i passed

man wget will help

You could try using rsync or mirror. I have not used them myself so don't know if they are what you are looking for.

i do not think u can use that to download websites
they are for syncronization between servers

I knew they could be used to mirror/sync servers etc, but wasn't sure about websites.

and how should i use the wget for downloading a site?
wget www.mysite.com saves only the index.html
What should i do?

u ned to pass more arguments like

-r
--recursive
Turn on recursive retrieving.

-l depth
--level=depth
Specify recursion maximum depth level depth. The
default maximum depth is 5.

You probably already know this, but some site admins get ticked off when users download their entire site. If you're going to do it, the best way to go about it is to use the option --limit-rate=10000 (for 10KB/s) or whatever speed you can stand to download at. If you don't need it right away, perhaps lower it to 5000 (5KB/s) and let it run overnight.
