Download PINGUY 13.10.4
 

Hey:

For a few days now, I've been trying to find a site that will download PINGUY 13.10 beta3. Please, DON'T suggest "Soureceforce" nor "Softpedia". Those sites have something wrong with them. I tried many times to download from them and it always states it will take between 1 to 4 hrs. NOT!!!! Anybody got a good site to get that O.S? And...what is the latest LinuxMint O.S?

P.S. I copy the link at the sites you have trouble with and open a terminal and use wget> name of link goes next to that and hit enter and forget about it till it is done downloading.

If you go to Sourceforge, there's the option to choose a mirror at the top of the page. I can't recommend one in the US: I always use Heanet or the University of Kent. But it sounds to me as if you selected the torrent option.

I'm going to keep looking around. Since Ubuntu will soon be releasing their newest distro, I'm surmising that, then, I'll find the PINGUY and/or LinuxMint that I choose loaded @ one of the Linux sites. Thanx gentlemen!!

Can anyone direct me to where I can download libvidcore-dev 3:1.3.2-dmo1 Have been to U.S.C. & 'net" with no luck. Or, could I be directed to a video player I can download that will play these formats? [DVDRip XviD- 1080p XviD-BDrip XviD]

convert it to avi. Play it in Gnome-mplayer or VLC in Ubuntu.

Nothing wrong with sourceforge (softpedia I'm much more leery about). So, its going to taqke 1-4 hrs, whats the big problem?

Mint 17 wont be out until late may/early july at the earliest. Pinguy wil probably be later than that.

Typoed package name (it should be 'libxvidcore-dev 3:1.3.2-dmo1'). Uneeded anyway, and even if you do need 'libxvidcore' AFAIK you dont need the 'dev' (development) version.

Xvid .avis play perfectly on my system, and I' pretty sure I'm using libxvidcore4.

I dont know where you got the idea to install 'libxvidcore-dev', but another example of why its not a geat idea to go around trying to follow random guides or advice.

Then pinguy, and mint, arent going to help much. The problem isnt that its a BDrip, or that its an XviD, IMO its most likely a dodgy 'fake' file. If not fake, its DRMed.

FF-Multi Converter is a front-end for ffmpeg. ffmpeg uses libxvidcore to decode the video, and if you cant play it, ffmpeg will not be able to convert it.

Yes, well, what I don't understand is that I have played BRRip XviD andn .avi previously, and the past week or so I just can't get any of thos eto play. just another of the flaws. So, think it's best just to get LinuxMint or Pinguy and hopefully, my problems will be erradicated. Curious, is there a video player avaiablr that I could download that will play the crypted formats? I know U.S.C doesn't have one and I've been around the "net" a bit, but am just not sure of what I saw. Take Care, my friend.

I've seen the same issue, which is why I think its fake and/or dodgy files.

If it is, from when I've seen this before, if you tried to play the file on WMP (windows media player) it will say 'sorry, cannot play, codec required' and give you a link to where you can buy the required codec. Do_not_do_this!

I could be wrong, feel free to post the source for the files (provided that its not some P2P link). I might even be able to figure out, or at least guess, if its fake/dodgy from just the full filename.

Not in the cases where fake/dodgy files have been distributed and designed to catch unwary and impatient users.

I really doubt it. Why do you think that chaning OS is going to help?

I am switching to another distro simply because I've had it with Ubuntu 12.04. I've fought with it from the very beginning of it's install. I started with 10.04 and it got me "hooked". But, when it "lost support" and they moved to 12.04, well, what a waste!! They shouldn't fix things that aren't broke. As far as switching because of video playback failures, NO! I'm not sure if it's the player or quite simpley, as you mentioned, "fake" files. But, it does lead to some legimate questions about the validity of the player, as well. So, I did learn one thing about some of the 'files"/"formats". Some files are encrypted to play on WMP only!? So, after install of another O.S., I'll look around for a cross-format video player and/or download a Linux compatable WMP. THANX FOR REPLYING!!!
