I do not yell at anybody, I just repeat original question is that form which does not give any chance to interpret it wrongly. Up until now I did not got any answer, only unrelated offtopic. Soon this thread will be on second page since it lost its zero-reply status for nothing, and have not any chance to get help I hoped, as it happened here (yes, there was asked the same question as mine, and there was only offtopic answers(yes, history repeats itself). I don't know if OP got solution elsewhere, or don't care anymore of it, but I care.)

Acestream is experiemental Ubuntu-only software. Its developers are very secretive (possibly because their project is of dubious legality) and they refuse to release the source code to the public so it can be compiled for other distributions. If you are upset they have decided not to provide Mandriva packages, that is really not something anyone on LinuxQuestions is interested in listening to you complain about.

You should understand that it really is not about "broken links": you're asking for instructions in the Debian forum while not using Debian or apt-get. And that's as efficient as trying to stop an arterial bleeding with a wooden log. I'll move the thread to the Software forum and I agree you should post your questions regarding Acestream in their forum, not LQ. (Sure you could do something with running a proxy on a machine running Ubuntu or Debian to find out what gets requested but that's the most inefficient approach IMHO.)

i just looked at the acestream.org website and see no hint of linux support whatsoever.
since op claims to be ukrainian it should be possible to post on the forums mentioned earlier, which are russian afaics.

edit: sorry this is redundant. i missed page 2 of the thread.

MOVE it back into Debian forum! I ask instruction about replacement of apt-get by my own script. Acestream here as an example of 3rd-party repo. apt-get is a party of Debian, so I must ask here and not elsewhere.

Hello

I was provided with repository link, in form "deb http://repo.example.com/debian wheezy main"

I have package name "OneMillionBuksApp"

How I can download that package from given repo having unreachable apt (non-Debian distro or non-Linux environment)?
Any script or any formal algorithm?

Stop shouting. Using CAPS LOCK in forums is the same as shouting. Also a please may help you get the help you want, shouting at someone to MOVE something back to where it was without a please thank you or any nicety whatsoever doesn't help to get people to want to help you.

and apart from that the demand to move it back into debian forum is complete nonsense.
saying please is good, but it wouldn't help in this case.
an effort for real communication, yes.

Did you think to share the answer here so others can benefit who might have the same question in the future?

I want to know this! :-/

This thread should not have been marked as solved because, although the original poster said to have it solved, the information is not posted here. And the aim of LQ forums is not to solve each user's problems and end. It is to solve someone's problem and keep the solution in a way that may be useful for others as well. And we clearly miss the latter here.

It was frustating to read this thread with so many posts that were not really useful for the original question. I agree the user was not so kind with his words, but there is some conventions to say this. I used BOLD to emphasize, he used caps (as I just did) - maybe just a preference, not something bad as yelling his demand.

Rewriting the problem:

- we're given an alternative Debian repository that we don't want to leave it configured permanently

- or we don't want to make the work of adding one more repo on our machine (if we're using it, at the time)

- but we are not given access to directly download the .deb file(s) we're insterested - just the repo, which can be accessed normally, with apt-get (or similar programs)

- so, how can I do it? Accessing the repo URL (root path) on a browser gives access denied errors. But the repo is there, we know it... so... what can be the steps?

dedec0, you should really start a new thread, defining your question properly.
you can put a link to the new thread here.

( fwiw, i'm pretty sure apt-get has some switch to only download packages )
