Dot Net and Windows installer

I have a software package called Point - it needs the .NET framework to work. For .net to load I need a working IE6 (which i have).

WHen I start the install of .net i get a message ".Net nees to update the microsoft windows installer components before setup can continue"

Thats when the install breaks. I am assuming by this I need to find another way to install the windows installer to a newer version. I have the windows installer.exe ready to roll, however when I try and open it with the WINE Emulator absolutely nothing happens.

Any ideas?

If you are running dual boot, you can simply point WINE to your existing Windows installation (and update everything in that). If not....I don't kmow.
