DOOM/DOOM II on Dosbox - Thread

Hi,

I - GAMEPLAY ON DOSBOX

With Dosbox, you may play doom1 or 2 very easily.
You need to do:

Code:
 cd doom ; dosbox -c "mount c . " -c "setup" -c "doom1"
If you would like to run DOOM with nice maps, you can get a nice WAS (Map) and play it with:
Code:
doom -warp 1 -nomonsters -file MYMAP.WAD
And doom will start, it will ask you to press enter, and you can get your map. The new gfx/original sounds... are integrated into the wad.

II - MORE MAPS/WADS

There are very nice maps for doom2 there:
ex:
ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pc/games/idga.../a-c/city2.zip
ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pc/games/idga...d-f/dmcity.zip
ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pc/games/idga.../p-r/parch.zip

III - For fun, multiplayer Gaming over LAN

A question. If you run doom2 or doom1 on dosbox, you may think about this configuration to play lan (2 players). However the ipx, and so on might be not so easy over dosbox. http://www.doom2.net/doom2/network.html
How would you connect two pc machine on the lan ?

IV - Alternatives on Linux.

With PRBOOM this is relatively easy. You may follow this procedure:

Other ports on Linux:

Have fun !
Best regards

In your Doom II directory make a file called "R.BAT" with the fallowing code:
Code:
doom2.exe <s -record demo -maxdemo 999 -warp %1 -skill %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
Now from your Doom II directory type "r 07 4" to play map 7 on skill 4 (Ultraviolence). Your gameplay will be recorded in a file called "DEMO.LMP". To playback the recording, type "doom2 -playdemo demo" -- if you want to keep the recording, be sure to rename DEMO.LMP to SOMETHINGELSE.LMP so it's not overwritten by the next recording.

For Doom I make R.BAT contain the fallowing:
Code:
doom.exe <s -record demo -maxdemo 999 -warp %1 %2 -skill %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
"r 3 7 4" will play Episode 3, map 7, on skill 4 and record it.

If you play WADs, create a file called "S" and place the fallowing inside it:
Code:
ECHO Y
ECHO
Now if you type "r 05 4 -file av.wad" to the play the WAD "av.wad", the warning notification about using a third party WAD will be skipped.
