I am using KDE Plasma latest update on my desktop PC and on my Lenovo laptop.
I am using the Dolphin file manager on both, but:
On my desktop when I browse files in Dolphin and hit F11, a new column shows up on the right and when I hover over any file on the list, it shows a preview of that file ( I usually do it for JPG files) it shows a preview of that image.
When I hit F11 on my laptop, it does NOTHING, well, maybe it does something, but not what I expect.
Different keyboard layers? You might need to press another key to activate F11 on the laptop. As it is it could be used for a different function, like volume up or stop button for a player, etc

Ok,how do I know what or how to configure short cuts
open a panel(window) goto settings > config keyboard shortcuts, when that config panel opens use the search box located at top of type in - *F11 or information* one of those will point you to the shortcut and re-assign to *information > F11* is how it should look if you get a warning that it's for something already click yes to re-assign, make a note of that shortcut and so if you need it,the one you've wiped you can make a fresh keyboard shortcut for it also.
That's Dolphin > settings > config keyboard shortcuts -then- config panel > search box > information or F11

Hope that helps.

Ok, what will I assign the F11 to get the preview?
I had to assign it on F12, it seems that F11 is unavailable in my case for some reason
So what do you mean by F11 is unavailable , what is the F11 key mapped to.
asking because if you go install another distro and import the /Home/Config dot_files from this install into another distro install that could give some conflicts.
I found that it's better to know, dig into the system sometimes it is worth the effort, just bit better to know what the machine your using is doing and get comfortable looking in deeper.
I glad you managed to get it working with F12,
Make time to find out where or what is captured by F11.
I have dozens of keyboard shortcut for Dolphin, Kwin, Plasma and The Gimp etc default shortcuts I try and leave as they are, avoids conflicts if and when installing another distro or even taking those shortcuts to another computer then they work seamlessly.

I have no idea, how can I find out what F11 is doing, when I tried it, it points to ALT+ somthing, how can I wipe it?
Thanks again
Alex

Looks like again I'm having to guess because your explanation is really Clear as mud.
Let's see now
mm you're in the config keys shortcuts - Dolphin
and then found an entry for or with F11
Now take the time to check this and Don't skip over this quickly OK.
The F11 should be in the second column titled Shortcut
is this it ?
The first column is named *Action*
The second column is named *Shortcut*
The third column is named *Alternate*
Now if I'm guessing correctly you are looking at the third column ?
This is where you should be nodding your head, YES.
Well alex4buba ignore that column please.
look at the second column named *Shortcut*
Now actually click please click on the *F11* word
A small panel will should open that when you click on the F11 in the second column
You will see
TWO lines
1- Default
2- custom
where the 2nd is custom, click on the word *None*
that controls the keyboard shortcuts
Don't look at that third column - it is of NO use to you.
Did I guess correctly
I need a cuppa
if you don't succeed read instructions again and try again until yeah until 0Oh try again.
I don't think anything having to do with shortcuts is useful here, since shortcuts aren't intended to add functionality. They are intended to provide more convenient ways of accessing functionality that already exists.
I think now that my inability to replace the jpeg icons by previews is simply a bug, since as I recall this worked as expected a few years ago. I'll try to report it as such.

Hello @pwabrahams
If you think reporting this as a bug is a good idea, make a post on this thread with the results so we can learn from you.

Hello again,
I took some screen shots to explain what is going on at my end. Whatever I do however, works OK to bring up the "Information" column, but once I quit Dolphin and come in again, either F12 or F11 do nothing. Please see below the images (and yes, I click OK at the end)
anyway let's continue
In image 3 where it is Launch (1) click on that word Launch (1) THAT will should change to the word NONE or word input click on the word input and press the F11 key then OK , and that all you have do nothing MORE
image 4 mate don't know why you go using Meta + tab combo for that shortcut no no no your in the wrong lane.

Hello artux
Once again, many thaks for the time and effort you put into this.
1) NO, I am not looking at the 3rd column
2) YES, I repetead the instructions of section 13 several times
3) I DID NOT decide on Launc(1) the app inserted it . It works with F12 for as long as I am in the app (Dolphin) and once I quit, it is forgotten and F12 does NOTHING.
4) When I try with F11 - I did NOT decide on Meta + tab, the App inserted it
