does wine work with itunes on opensuse 10.2

I'm running openSuse 10.2 on my laptop and i'm trying to install iTunes with wine and it gives me and error saying: This iTunes installer requires that your computer is running Windows XP or Vista.

All other windows apps work with wine. I read on some forum that iTunes does not work with wine in Suse 10.2? Has anyone worked around this problem if that's the case?

According to WineHQ's application database (see here), at least some versions of iTunes might run on Wine.

Though I consider iTunes trash software, simply because it has never worked without problems on me :) The other available software works perfectly with the iPod I own, and that's enough (software like Amarok, GTKpod or one of the Windows things like Winamp plugin).

EDIT: whenever Wine is in question, don't expect anything to run on it. There is no guarantee, and from personal experience I can tell that if a program does run on one Wine version, it might not run on another -- even if the "another" version was newer. Some apps run perfectly fine, others don't run at all, and some may crash at unexpected places. If you really need the Windows programs, buy a legal copy of Windows (XP is good) and either install it as a virtual operating system or just get it some hardware of it's own, preferrably new enough for it to run fast enough for your nerves.

What exactly do you use itunes for? I'm pretty sure there's an alternative program you can use.

Hello Gents,

thanks for the feedback! The reason why I want to use iTunes is because I just got an iPod touch as a gift, so apple as usual, is saying iTunes is the way to go if you want things to work properly with the iPod, perhaps its mostly true since it is they're app, anyhow, I have a dual boot installed on my laptop with Windows Vista, so I can always use iTunes in there, but I wanted to see if there was anyway to get it to work on linux, since I use linux more then Windows and I keep windows around for situations like this one, anyhow, I've already installed Amorok, so I'm going to experiment with that. But I was not able to get my iPod touch to be recognized in Amorok? any ideas?

I tried to synchronize with Banshee and it worked, although I wasn't happy about functionality.
I tried gtkPod and I love it!!! Try this! (I have 80GB iPod with protected iTunes database and before I had problems with tools like Amarok. I am not sure whether they work now. I personaly prefer simpler tools)
gtkPod is much better than iTunes. You can synchronize everything very quickly and play songs from iPod (without having them on hard disk).

regarding iTunes with WINE; I have tried but it didn't worked. I have openSUSE 11 32 bit

Amarok works fine for me. It shows up the moment I connect it... then it's just drag-and-drop.
And it doesn't try to synchronize your whole collection once you connect it.

gtkpot should work as well.
