Does VMWare support plug and play USB?

I have installed the beta version of VMWare on my Ubuntu box. Windows XP as my guest OS. Here's my question, does VMWare support USB Plug and Play devices? I tried plugging in a USB thumb drive and I expected my guest OS (Windows XP) to detect it but nothing happened. I also notice that VMWare Server takes up a lot of memory space and after a few boot-ups your machine starts to slow drastically. I really love VMWare but I am also looking for an alternative that can handle USB support and everything. Thanks.

Yes. You can get it to see your USB device by going to the VM menu and then "Removable Devices" and telling it to connect the USB device. Vmware then tells you that it has to disconnect it from the host system (USB) in order to allow it to attach to your guest OS. If all you want to do is share files between the 2, then there are other methods such as using a smb share.
