Does Radioio hate XMMS?
 

Listening to streaming radio is very straightforward on sites like RadioParadise and Shoutcast. On Konqueror, I just point and click and it immediately opens XMMS and starts playing.

On Raioio, after making you choose the format (MP3) there is a javascript that opens another window asking you for your e-mail. OK, I give them an e-mail address, and then I was asked if I wanted XMMS to open the file and I got it (just fine).

But it worked ONLY THE FIRST TIME on Raioio. Now it opens a new window saying, among other things, NOW PLAYING ... , but no sound or player embedded.

ON Windows, Radioio does the same thing, but the final window has Windows Media Player embedded.

I tried inactivating JavaScript, changing the identity of my browser (Konqueror) and using other browsers (Epiphany and Lynx) and looking at the source of the pages they open with their scripts (looking for an address that I could later include on XMMS playlist), but I guess I'm still to crude a user to figure it out by myself.

I've tried looking on the web, and people say they hear Radioio with XMMS, not mentioning any difference with other internet radio websites (WHICH DO NOT GIVE THIS PROBLEM).

It's embarrassing to ask something so simple, but here I am. Any clues from a kind soul?

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but there's a plugin called mplayerplug-in. After I installed it, any time I got one of those embedded players that usually open in windows media player, it would play in this plugin.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have several plugins installed and I can add that one.

However, the first time it worked directly with XMMS (clicking just opened XMMS). Is there any way I can get the URL of the stream and add it manually to XMMS. That way I would have that radio available from XMMS permanently.

I know it all has to do with the interface the website has to give you access to the stream, but why did it work nicely the first time?

What I would like is to listen to Radioio like I did the first time: CLICKING, WITH AUTOMATIC OPENING OF XMMS, no more browser intervention.

I guess what I will need is the stream URL. Is there any way I can find it from the pages they present after clicking?

Does my question make sense anyway??

While I can't tell you why the XMMS click worked the first time but not there after. It may well be that instead of selecting the WinMedia stream type, you need to simply shift and select the WinNT stream format. This would be because we've recently changed in an attempt to still support the older wmp players etc while taking advantage of the newer technology of upcoming software revisions. I suspect that you're stuck in an older plugin/player type he(( .
So it's nothing against XMMS or linus/unix , we're simply having to grow with the times - and this sometimes means compressing the supported types of players.

I believe that the WMP link is your best choice though, as the unix mp3/xmms player, like some others, does not support running embedded . It also doesn't support html enhanced content provisioning like the new softwares do - such as WMP 9 and 10 and the newest Real player.

So please do try the WinNT stream format at http://www.radioio.com and let me know if this works for you. Simply use the contact page there to get ahold of myself or other personnel.
