Does cron have a log I can read?

I remember when I used to run sendmail or qmail, every time daily/weekly/monthly cron ran - it sent me an email with a log of what output it had.

Now I installed JAMES (THE best mail server out there), but it doesn't come with a "sendmail" substitute, which I believe cron uses... So now I don't get any logs, and i have no idea why one of my cron tasks is failing (it runs fine when I run it manually, but it doesn't seem to be ran by cron).

Is there any place where cron stores its logs? I checked /var/log and it had logs of when cron was launched, but no actual output logs...

So my question is - where can I find those logs (if they exist)

and is there any program that can be used as a substitute for sendmail?

thanks!

How many do you want? :}

There's postfix. exim, qmail, ...

As far as cron log/mail goes. That's a question of how you
set cron up. Normal behaviour is that if you're not using
a redirect it will mail you the results.

Cheers,
Tink

When I meant substitute for sendmail, I didn't mean the SMTP server, just the program "sendmail" that many programs on Linux use to send email.

I'm using JAMES to run my SMTP server and I need a command line program called sendmail that will send whatever text to my localhost:smtp.

As for setting up cron - how do you set it up? Is there any docs?
