Does anybody knows a good Graphic Designing Application for Linux?

Hi, I've migrated to linux, and I've been working with it for some months, but I have a problem, when I used to work with winodws I used to work with some graphic designing applications like Corel Draw 12 and Macromedia Flash and I wonder if somebody knows a good Graphic Designing application that I could run on Linux.

Thanks.

jahshaka (www.jahshaka.com) my cousins flash teacher recommended it as linux software. i dont know much about it, its a little buggy, and comes with no documentation. but if you know what you're doing then you should have no issue

and theres blender. which i dont recall the website for. thats complex, but its fecent animation software. runs great in linux too

I'm not familiar with Corel Draw, but if I had to guess, it's likely similar to The GIMP

i left out gimp. i apologize. it comes with every distro ive ever used. its good. powerful, pretty much photoshop. if you go to gimp.org there is a site listen in the links that says you have to pay, that isnt true. the site sends you a CD (i think) but either way its free everywhere else

Corel Draw != Gimp at all ;) Corel Draw is for vector graphics while Gimp is raster only + pretty shitty vector-like stuff (photoshop is IMHO much better).

There's no real alternative to Corel on linux (at least any decent version).

Blah. I hear this kind of drivel from photoshop weenies almost every time I bring up The GIMP. The vast majority are unable to name exactly what PS does that GIMP doesn't, but they're sure there must be something. Most of the stuff that they come up with that PS can do that GIMP can't is just plain wrong, or a matter of not knowing how GIMP works.

Having said that -- I'm not a graphic designer at all (one look at my very plain website will show that ;) ) or a GIMP expert, but if you're on a Linux machine, and asking about graphics programs, there's really only one; The GIMP.

If you were a masochist you could get wine and try to make your windows software work under linux, but this will ultimately lead to you cursing ever having removed windows and you'll be installing it again. If you use those programs in a recreational capacity, then you're not missing anything and can learn new tools. If you need them in a professional capacity (which I doubt since you've not needed them for "some months") then you should get a windows box...
