does anybody know how to instal Graboid

I'm sure there are a lot of good Linux programs like Graboid...however I already have a Graboid account and really would like to install Graboid on my Ubuntu system. I am running the latest version of Ubuntu (released on the 23rd) and really would appreciate some help

It appears to be a windows application (or at least uses a windows installer), so you'd need to install it under Wine.

The previous comment mentions Wine -- to explain, Wine is a program that allows Windows programs to be run with Linux. Not all programs work with it, but a lot do, so it's always worth a try.

I've never used Graboid (or even heard of it!), but I googled and found this on the graboid site:

I have tried to install Graboid on Linux using Wine, and I have been successful to the point that I can open Graboid and search for videos.
If anyone wants to try this out, you just need to install IE6 before you install Graboid and you should be fine.
The problem arises when you try to play videos or download videos. If I press play or download, it says that it is downloading the info and then it gives the error “Error processing download/playback information. (NilObjectException)”
Is there anything you can suggest I do or anything that you can do to make this work better under wine?
[moderator: It's nice to see that you're making some progress in running Graboid under Linux. As I'm sure you might expect, we cannot focus on Linux related support issues until we've ironed out all of the bugs from the native Windows application. Nevertheless, we will attempt to eliminate this bug, as we've had one other user report experiencing this issue, so it may not be directly related to running Graboid under Wine.]
It sounds from that comment that it may not be straightforward getting it to work under Wine. But it's certainly worth a try -- the comment was posted nearly a year ago, and Wine has progressed a fair amount in the last year, and Graboid themselves may have fixed the bug mentioned, so things will probably have improved.

Would be interesting to hear how you progress. If you do have problem getting it running with Wine, you should also ask on the forums at www.winehq.org, as you'll get more specialist help there.

All the best!
