Do I need anti-virus software? What one?
Hi there,
Just a quick question relating to anti-virus software. Do I really need an anti-virus on a linux platform. I come from a Windows background (as most of us do) and the idea that I have no anti-virus installed scares me.
What software would you suggest? There doesn't appear to be any clear advise on the internet relating to this.
Would be grateful of any help you could give.
Many thanks,
Mike
ps I run Fedora Core 2

i remember hearing once something along the lines of: "there are no viruses in linux, only errors with permissions"
*not that i believe in that*... linux is not as big a threat to getting viruses, if only for the fact that there are less linux users/machines
clamav is popular

I posted almost the exact same question earlier this week, and I was given various suggestions on different anti-virus tools, and told that I don't need them anyway. Anyway, I ended up deciding on ClamAV, and it's working great. It found three viruses on my computer on it's first scan, and I got rid of them with no problem. (They didn't appear to be harming my computer any, though)

Many thanks guys.
I'm going to give ClamAV a try.
Maybe I'll now be able to sleep at night knowing that I don't have any viruses plaguing my system.
Thanks again.
