DNS configuration file /etc/resolv.conf gets updated after every reboot

Hi All,

We have some domains. I put all those domain in /etc/resolv.conf in Search list for host-name lookup but whenever I am restarting the network service or machine the resolv.conf gets update and it gets updated with DNS variables/configuration from /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1 file. I tried to configure DNS with system-config-network command but still the same observation/result.

Could you please let me know what is the reason behind getting updated the /etc/resolv.conf file after every reboot or service start.

Regards,
Yogesh

which distro are you using?

Is NetworkManager runningon the system? If yes then check whether issue reproduces if NetworkManager is turned off.

i don't know about your system, but resolv.conf gets overwritten by dhcp on every boot if you use dhcp.

You can try write-protecting the file.

chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf
