Ok, I currently dabble with a few of these programs.

If you know what a tracker is, its basically what fruity loops is minus the sound banks, and other cool stuff. They are based off the old old dos program Impulse Tracker, which was used to create a good portion ofthe early 90s techno. Never the less they are fun to mess with and you can get some pretty good results with them.

The one I use is Cheese Tracker. http://www.reduz.com.ar/cheesetracker/

Another good one is Sound Tracker
http://www.soundtracker.org/

Another pretty cool program is TerminatorX. Its a scratching program that alows you to "scratch" digital audio. http://www.terminatorx.cx/

For audio editing I use Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I hope this helps.
