divx for linux


I need help installing divx for linux. I download it, extract it. Go to terminal.

Go su and type in password. cd to directory. go
sh install
"Invalid binary" somethin
then i try sh install.sh nothing happens.
i double click on it in phlak and a window pops up with text for about 1/10th of a second then closes. what do i do?

Well divx is another name for MPEG-4. You can install mplayer and you can decode or encode to any divx version but you will need to add the codec to a specify directory that mplayer can see. Mplayer should be easy to compile and install.

Guess what... mplayer was preinstalled.

Why you want divx for Linux anyways because Mplayer does the samething.

I bet the pre-installed Mplayer does not have certain features you want that only compiling will give you.
