DivX 6 Encoding

I installed the new DivX 6 package for linux from the official website the other day, but I have no idea how to use it. This is how I would like to use it:

I need to be able to encode in divx certified profile format using avidemux (or something similar if you know one).

I have used xvid, mencoder, transcode and ffmpeg to make mpeg-4 files that are divx quality or better, but they don't help me any since my dvd player wont play them back correctly.

I am currently using Kubuntu 6.10 if that will help.

I would even settle for divx5 encoding at this point as long as it plays on my hardware. I am pulling my hair out on this problem. This is hte only hurdle left for completely removing windows from my life. PLEASE HELP

peg-4 IS divx... you can't getg divx quality films, a codec is a codec, no relation to quality here. essentially you would recompile these applications, e.g. mplayer to include support for the newer libraries, assuming that they do support it.
