display wrong linux version


whether i startup using the 2.4.22 or 2.6.3 kernel.
when i type uname -r it gives me 2.6.3-4mdk
what command do I use to find out which kernel is running at the time
/proc/version gives me permission denied even in su

if you want to access ANY of the virtual processes in the
/proc/ directory, you need to put the "cat" command in front.........IE
cat /proc/modules
cat /proc/cpuinfo
......etc
