Display slow on text console

Hi all,

I have a Supermicro server with a X9SRE motherboard with a Matrox G200eW 16MB DDR2 graphics controller with fedora20. The problem is that the display is very slow at the console.

Text scrolls very slowly unless it's in 80x24 or something similar.

My searching about this issue only showed outdated results from 2010. How do I find out what the current boot font and size are, and how do I change it? /proc/cmdline says "vconsole.font=latarcyrheb-sun16", but how about the font size?

Should 16MB of video memory be able to display the smaller default boot fonts or am I expecting too much?

Thanks,
Alex

I posted this message a few days ago - no one has any ideas? Did I post in the wrong group?

Does anyone have any idea where to find more (current) info on controlling text-mode fonts?

It apepars to change multiple times during boot - is it a system config and/or grub config thing?
