try a startx

run setup and in system services disable xdm (the one that start X on boot).

after that reboot and from the console run startx

if it runs then the xdm is the faulty. Search the config files for it and erase them. It should reconfigure by itselt on next startup.

reput the xdm service there and reboot again.

if the above thing doesnt work, edit /etc/inittab to change the initdefault from 5 to 3(multiuser textmode).from there, try 'startx'.check your X log file(/var/log/XFree.0.log).
