Display list of ethernet adapters and their status

Hello,

I have to write a user application that display list of ethernet adapters installed in the PC and their status (e.g speed)

I can get this information with "ifconfig -a" and "ethtool".
Is there an API for this purpose ?

Thank you,
Z.V
