disk caching disabled for folder or file?

Thank you,

I play an old wine game Age of Wonders, although I often run into the problem that my save file does not get saved to disk. Is it possible to make linux disable file caching for one file or folder?

If not, is clearing the cache the same as flushing the cache?
And does this save the data to the drive or just eliminate it?

#1 AOW was never a WINE game, it is a Windows game that one might run on Linux using Wine.
#2 I presume when you say "flushing cache" you mean what I would if I said "flushing I/O buffers". If so, there is no way I know to turn off buffers (or caching) for a single file. It MAY be possible for a single file system or partition, but I have never tried that.
#3 Normally if you flush the I/O buffers the pending writes get flushed to the disk.

What are you doing to "clear" or "Flush" in this context. The exact command may be important. I am unsure how your WINE settings and behavior might affect things.

If I might ask, why not use the STEAM versions of AOW?
OR the Linux version of The Battle For Wesnoth?

If a page in the page cache is updated it will be written to disk. Unless something catastrophic happens. Like say a USB is yanked out before the physical write happens, or hard power-off.
I don't know what wine does, but it isn't hard to imagine it could look like the above if you just kill it rather than shut it down properly.

tl;dr - it's more likely a user error than a system memory management issue.
