discovering devices on scsi bus

I have a Linux host which is connected over fibre chanel to a Tape Library. I need to write a program that runs on the linux host, which can locate and discover the tape library. Can someone tell me what approach - API should I be using? I am hoping some kind of SCSI API? Please give me the right pointers.

Thanks
Vishwa

A lot of the recent distros include a naft script called 'rescan-scsi-bus.sh' which can do that for you. Make sure you add the -l switch to probe multiple LUNs.

Thank you for the response. As I am a newbie - can you tell me
1) what is naft script
2) which verison of Linux has this script. Should I try red hat?

Try 'slocate rescan-scsi' and see if anything turns up. If you don't have it on your particular distro, you could try Googling for the script as well.
