Disappearing Eclipse code completion under KDE

I am currently running Eclipse 3.1.2 under Slackware Linux's default KDE environment (KDE 3.4).

The code completion dialog box that usually pops up when typing '.' after an object or class name briefly appears and then disappears after a split-second.

The feature works fine under WindowMaker, so I assume it's a bug related to KDE? I have tried re-installing Eclipse and removing metadata in the home directory.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem, or how I could go about solving it?
