Disabling spamassassin in kmail (rant)

Spamassassin is doing me in! I activated it using the spam wizard of kmail, and it's doing a terrible job of classifying spam -- lots of good messages are being treated as spam while most real spam is going unrecognized. Now I can't figure out how to turn it off! A particularly inept piece of its default configuration is sending purported spam to trash rather than to a separate folder, so misclassified messages get lost altogether. (At least I was able to change that once I discovered it.) What's more, it doesn't seem to give much weight to the whitelist, so even mail from a whitelisted address can get classified as spam.

I understand it's highly configurable, but how to configure it is a complicated subject and takes a lot of study. Doing simple things is not simple.

So how do I turn it off in kmail?

Go into the Settings menu --> Configure Filters and delete/disable the rules it created for Spamassassin.
