Disabling LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT on Ubuntu 7.10

So I noticed today that after I started using Compiz-Fusion on my Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) computer, that I no longer had direct rendering. That puts a big damper on the OpenGL programming I had been doing. I checked out my environment variables, and found:

LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1

That is the culprit I think. That's what glxinfo told me anyway. I can't figure out how to get rid of that environment variable though. I'd at least like to try running Compiz-Fusion with direct rendering. I really like the effects, so I don't want to give it up to get my DRI capabilities back.

I'm using the "radeon" driver too, if that helps anything. Using the "ati" driver didn't help anything, and the proprietary drivers really screwed things up, so I lost those in a hurry.

My graphics card in this computer is a Radeon 9550, but I also have a computer with a 9250 that has exactly the same problem.
