Disable XEmacs

I was wondering if there is a way to disable xemacs from running when I execute `emacs` in the console? I know about `emacs -nw` but is there a way so I can just run `emacs` and have the console version start? Thanks!

You can make an alias like

alias emacs='emacs -nw'

and put it in .bashrc. Thats good for typing the command from a term, but if you want to start from a menu or desktop icon, you would need to start the term as well so make the command line 'aterm -e emacs -nw' or for whichever term you want to use

I just tried that and it didn't work. I created a .bashrc, added that, restarted my console and xemacs still starts.

.bashrc is read when you log in, so you would need to log out/in OR you can also type the command in a term:

alias emacs='emacs -nw'
alias (will print all your aliases to check)

Also if you had logged out and back in, check that .bash_profile has a line to source .bashrc like:

[[ -f ~/.bashrc ]] && . ~/.bashrc

Will those stay when I reboot my computer?
