Disable domain guessing in Firefox?

Firefox has a feature which I find quite annoying: If you mistype an address, it attempts to guess what address you wanted, by adding www. and .com on either side of the string you typed. According to this page on the MozillaZineKnowledge Base, setting browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false, should make this feature go away. I set it to false in about:config, restarted the browser, and it doesn't work. Is this a bug or am I possibly misunderstanding the settings?

Firefox 1.5.0.4

have you tried removing the .www and .com from the browser.fixup.alternate.{prefix:sufix} as well as setting browser.fixup.alternate.enable to false?

not sure it will have any effect, but worth a try.

Okay, I figured it out. I think. Besides appending www. and .com to URLs, Firefox also attempt a Web search using "I'm Feeling Lucky" on Google. Basically, go to about:config and set keyword.enabled to false and it doesn't perform this search. Or change keyword.url to use another search engine.
