Directing sound output to microphone

Hi,

I'm using my computer as a sip telephone, which works fairly well. I think that it would be nice to be able to drop in a famous quote or a line of a song or some other piece of sound I have as ogg vorbis or mp3. Playing them works fine, but how can I get the person on the other end of the line to hear it?

My idea of how it would work is to send the sound to the speakers as well as to the microphone, but I just don't know how. Obviously the problem is the latter, but I couldn't find anything about it on the web or different forums. Maybe I've just been asking the wrong questions?

Have you got any ideas or hints?
Thanks.

PS: Fedora core 2

amixer has a capture device labeled "Mix"
that captures anything/everything going through the soundcard
try that instead of "Mic" as the capture device

Perfect post

This post gave me just the hint I needed to get a similar thing working (using Festival output to send text through skype :-P).

So, now that I've brought this post back from the dead, why don't I add something to it.

If you use kMix, the "Switches" tab in the mixer window has an option called "Mix". Turn it on, and set your microphone volume. Voila!
