Direct3d, Winex, and more...
 
Before you read, remember : NEWBIE

Okay, before I shell out the last half of the money I have in the bank for Winex, I would hope that someone could help me figure this problem out.

I'm not a genius about direct3d and openGL, but I believe that my card is designed with direct3d in mind....openGl moved slowly in windows as well.

Now I'm running full linux (RH8) on a HP laptop with a 1.5 ghz processor, 512 mb of ram, (32 shared for the crappy s3 video card). I tried running quake3 using the linux binary and my old win quake3 install but it only supported openGl rendering...bottomline, with EVERY special effct turned off, i'd get like 4 fps.

I heard someone suggest that there is a direct hardware access availability, but you have to recompile the kernel. However, I've heard that Winex can run games in d3d - but will it provide any fps difference? Does it still have to do an innefficient process to emulate d3d?

AAAAAAAGH I have so many games I'd like to play but I'm not sure winex will be a solution or if I have to wait to get my desktop back in a few months. I've looked around but I haven't been able to find out some specifics... :cry:
