digital camera software

howdy,

I'm running RH9 and am looking for some digital camera software that will read my canon sd100. There is some generic software included in the RH package, but unfortunately it does not pick up my camera. Any suggestions?

http://freshmeat.net will dig up a few zillion options for you :)

Before you mess with that, just check that you have the necessary support in your kernel etc. If its a usb device then make sure you have an entry for it in /proc/bus/usb/. The info in these files is a little difficult to read if your not familiar with the linux usb implementation. There is a nice app called "usbview" which can make it easier for you. Find it, and a list of other tools at www.linux-usb.org.

Good luck :)

gphoto2 with gtkam gui works like a charm.

Don't know much about the available packages for RH 9, but gphoto2/gtkam must be there somewhere (At least I hope so).

Regards.

There is a list of usb-devices and their compatibility at:

http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/

Canon cameras do not seem to do real well as USB mass storage devices (I have one and have had no success with mounting it as a drive) but should certainly work with gphoto2.

You might find this an interesting read:

A plug-in flash card reader is a good alternative.

sd100 and zaurus

one of the reasons i got the sd100 was because i already had a 512 sd card for my sharp zaurus. i just take it out of the canon and put it in the sd slot on the zaurus. you can then just ftp -i *.jpg *.avi to a folder on your desktop using a wireless cf card.

this is a lot more expensive than a free software package that uses the cable though :)

Ive got my Canon Powershot 200 hooked up to my Fedora box using 'gtkam' and i can transfter pics and videos between camra and computer flawlessly... i do recommend the 'gtkam' program

gthumb

i just found that if you just plug in your camera using the usb cord, gthumb has a really nice interface for taking pictures off of this model camera.

you have to do the pictures and the movies in seperate takes though or it will crash gthumb...
