Digikam Missing People Sidebar

Hi all, enjoying exploring and using Digikam on Centos 7. However my installation seems to have one major problem/omission. There is no way to do facial recognition. I have read the tutorials and they all talk about a "People Sidebar". And in the tutorial screen shots there is indeed a People tab right under the Fuzzy Search Tool. However in my installation it does not exist. In Settings -> Configure Digikam the only option I can find referencing face is for the Kipi Facebook Import/Export plugin.

So, what could the issue be or is face recognition not compiled in with a Centos 7 package? The version of Digikam installed is 4.10.0.

Everything else about Digikam works very well.

Any advice much appreciated.

Version 4.10.0 is old. I have 4.14.0 installed, and its been on my system for about 1 year. I would suggest looking for a newer version. 4.14.0 has the function you are looking for. I run Slackware, not Centos, so you will have to see whats in their repos.

Hi camorri,

thanks for that. However, from what I understand, face recognition has been included in Digikam for a long time. There is a youtube video from 2013 demonstrating it and also my version (4.10) states "New face recognition engine." So the feature should be available for 4.10.

I'm running Centos 7 and 4.10 is the latest version available.
