Question Digikam Issues

There are two things (did a quick look see) that keep me from going to digikam.

1. I have a structure on my hard disk that I want to adhere to. Digikam seem to want to copy the photos from there and create the structure in another folder under the control of digikam. Then if I want to use another program it is sort of locked into digikam. I would like to see digikam just create its own database but leave the actual photo files in place.

2. I would like to see non destructive editing like fspot were versions are created or picassa where the original is never overwritten but the modifications are saved in another file.

I ran a test and digikam allowed me to overwrite the original without any warning dialog.

Does anybody know how to solve these issues?
