digikam delete problem - related to gnome/kde trash handling?

I am using

Qt: 3.3.8b
KDE: 3.5.9-15.fc9 Fedora
digiKam: 0.9.3

and the "move image to trash" functionality of KDE application digikam fails with a "cannot rename
file error".

This happens no matter if I run digikam under KDE or GNOME, and the
respective trash systems (.local/ and .Trash) both seem to work fine under other

I've looked through the digikam mailing list and googled this issue but could not find
anything. Any suggestions as to how to fix, or further debug would be much
appreciated. I also posted in the digikam list, to no avail.

This appears to be a weird OS issue.

Thanks in advance.
