No argument from me at all about what the type code should indicate. There are times when I wish Linux did insist on correct type codes. I use encrypted swap partitions. Since the encryption key is not preserved across reboots, there is no possibility of checking for a swap signature, and any device specified as "swap" in /etc/crypttab will be formatted and used that way when the system boots. (I use LVM to avoid disaster there. It's not likely I would use an LV named "swap00" for anything else.)
