Did Ubuntu Live overwrite all 32GB of my USB?
 

I may have done something very stupid. I had my files saved to a 32GB SD card. I needed 1.1GB to write Ubuntu Live to that USB and I did so. Now that is only thing on the disk? I may have done something with partitions an/or formatting. I have Ubuntu up and running, just need those files and it appears the 1.1GB Live is the only thing on the disk now.

Please could someone tell me what to do. Do I just delete the Live Ubuntu? Reformat?

Also, my backup is encrypted and there is a password. Only the password doesn't seem to be working anymore. Is there any hope here either? I have that backup saved two places.

I have the back up uploaded to Google Drive and on a separate disk than that USB. However, the password I used to encrypt it isn't working to restore my files. :rolleyes: I have my pics saved to that 32GB USB, though, unencrypted. I'm looking at gparted.

You lost the first 1.1 GB of data on the disk or whatever the size of the image file is. The flash drive looks like the live image is the only thing on it since the original MBR was overwritten with the Live's own MBR.

So the files on the USB drive were not encrypted? You can use testdisk or photorec to try and recover whatever files were not overwritten by the live image.
