dial up for linux?
 

anyoe know a good dialup service for linux?
im using mandrake 9.2

Asked all the time, just about any service will work as long as they don't require any type of software, like their own custom software to get you connected. Kind of along the lines of what AOL does.

I always go with a local provider. To me they give much better service.

but not if you haven't got your modem working!!!

What other kinds do you mean or asking for? Service Providers or software to work with AOL? Pengaol I do believe is the only software readily available to work when using Linux. Other than that, if you can't get it to work, well ask for help or change ISP's that doesn't require goofy software to connect with.

He's asking about ISP's, not what to use to dialup with them as wvdial won't work currently with AOL service.

If you run KDE, use KPPP.
I don't use gnome, so i dunno about it..


Aol on a linux box oughta be against the law, punishable by death. ;)

Cable Modem here... but really choosing your ISP is up to you. Its your money and depends where your located at in what is available. Check out your local service providers if you don't want to use AOL and the software you have to get working to connect with.

comcast is CABLE. CABLE. not dialup.

most of the bigger isp's require some kind of stupid software to get on.
call your phone company, every one i've ever dealt with has some kind of internet service --

Open up your yellow pages and ask look for Internet Providers. Choose one that is local.
